Stephen Baker is New CFO


GEOWORKS TO APPOINT STEPHEN BAKER CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

(ALAMEDA, CA), October 20, 1998-Geoworks Corporation (NASDAQ National Market System: GWRX), a leading provider of smart phone software solutions, said today that it will name Stephen T. Baker vice president and chief financial officer. Baker replaces David Thatcher, who was named chief executive officer in June, 1998.

Baker, 41, has more than 17 years of finance experience with publicly traded technology and communications companies and joins Geoworks from Lucent Technologies, where he was vice president, finance and controller, for the Service Provider Messaging Group.

Before that, he was chief financial officer for the Software Systems Group of Bell Communications Research, and for Unix System Laboratories, a worldwide software company with revenues in excess of $100 million. Baker has also held financial management positions with Novell, Inc. and AT&T Corp.

"Steve brings a wealth of technology and communications experience to Geoworks," Thatcher noted. "He has developed financial and operational systems for both large organizations and fast-growing smaller companies, has extensive experience with OEMs and service providers and will play a key role in the implementation of Geoworks' financial turnaround strategy," he added.

Baker has a B.A. degree in Molecular Biology from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from the Columbia University Graduate School of Business.
